Berta Cáceres was one of Honduras’s leading indigenous activists and spent the better part of her life campaigning for the rights of indigenous people, especially concerning the struggles for land and natural resources. Cáceres was the recent winner of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize. The environmental and rights activist was, at the beginning of March, assassinated in her hometown of La Esperanza, Intibuca.
